2014 Chevrolet SS Officially Unveiled, Gets 415HP 6.2-liter LS3 V8 [w/ Video]

It may not have the firepower to worry the latest crop of German über-sedans such as the Mercedes-Benz E 63 AMG or the BMW M5 but, nevertheless, the 2014 Chevrolet SS that was unveiled today at the Daytona International Speedway, where its racing version also debuted at the Daytona 500 NASCAR event, is a welcome addition to the Bow Tie’s range.

That’s because the new SS, which is the American version of the new Holden SS V and is built around GM’s global platform that also underpins the Camaro and Caprice Police Patrol Vehicle, marks Chevrolet’s return to rear-wheel drive performance sedans after a long absence.

It looks like Holden is trying to grab as much attention as it can with the new generation Commodore VF by spreading out the presentations for each different model of the range.

After the unveiling of the regular Commodore this past weekend, GM's Australian subsidiary announced the performance SS V , which is the closest thing we've seen to the 2014 Chevrolet SS Sports Sedan, which is scheduled to debut this Saturday, February 16 at the Daytona International Speedway.

2014 Corvette Convertible Officially Confirmed for Geneva Motor Show

Just last week, there was a rumor going around the internet saying that General Motors may choose the upcoming Geneva International Auto Show in March for the world premiere of the convertible version of its 2014 Corvette Stingray.

On Tuesday, America's biggest automaker made it official and even released a teaser sketch that outlines the shape of the ragtop sports car, though, the previously available renderings that may or may not be sourced from Chevy, give us a much better idea of what the car will look like.

Chevrolet Unveils 148HP, 42 mpg 2014 Cruze 2.0-liter Turbo Diesel, Priced at $25,695

Rising gasoline prices along with the vast improvements made in diesel engine technology in the past few years mean that car manufacturers are much less reluctant to introduce oil-burning models in the U.S. market that, unlike Europe, clearly isn't too fond of them.

Chevrolet chose the Chicago Auto Show to unveil the Clean Turbo Diesel variant of its best-selling Cruze small sedan. The 2014 model that will be sold in the U.S. and Canada is powered by a 2.0-liter turbodiesel engine that puts out 148HP and 258 lb-ft (350 Nm) of torque and is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission.

Don't Like the 2014 Corvette Stingray's Square Tail Lamps? There May Be a Solution...

Even though the dust has yet to settle from the presentation of the new 2014 Corvette Stingray and we won't be seeing the car in showrooms until the end of summer the earliest, some fans of the series have been complaining about the switch from circle to the more Camaro-esque square taillights.

While it's true that the C2, C3, C5 and C6 did indeed have round or oval rear lights, it wasn't always like that as the C4 came with four square-shaped tail lamps and the first Corvette had single lights from 1951 to 1960, with the four-light treatment appearing on the 1961 and 1962 models of the C1 lineup.

GM President Says EVs Are Not Dead, Next Volt Will Cost “Thousands Less”

Despite predictions that plug-in hybrid and all-electric vehicles would increase rapidly due to climbing gasoline prices, in 2012, their sales were a mere 52,172 units according to the Automotive News Data Center.

That’s a drop in the ocean when viewed in the light of total new vehicle sales in the U.S. market, which surpassed 14.5 million last year. On the other hand, that figure accounts for a three-fold increase compared to 2011.

New Corvette convertible images leaked

Pictures claimed to be of the next-generation Chevolet Corvette Stingray convertible have appeared days after the coupe premiered at the Detroit motor show.

The unofficial pictures show that, with the hood down, the only visible differences between the bodystyles is that the cabrio loses the full width rear spoiler, and it appears to have smaller wheels.

New Corvette Stingray Imagined Hunkered Down, Riding on Vossen Wheels

Raise your hands if you think you know which car will be one of the stars of the next SEMA show in Las Vegas this fall. You can put them down now as we all know that unless GM chooses otherwise, the 2014 Corvette Stingray will be the poster child of world's largest aftermarket event.

In fact, we're already starting to see speculative takes on tuned Stingrays such as the these two renderings made by Glacius Creations, which is run by Norwegian design Christer Stormark.

Take a Walk Around the New Corvette Stingray via a Photo Gallery and Videos from the Detroit Show

If our own stats are anything to go by, the new Corvette Stingray is the undisputed star of the 2013 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit, so given your interest in the seventh incarnation of GM's flagship sports car, we prepared an extensive photo gallery along with videos from Chevrolet's booth.

In the first clip, Corvette chief engineer Tadge Juechter walks us around the new 'Vette and briefs us on the key highlights of the car, while we also have footage from the presentation and a short interview with GM North America president Mark Reuss, the latter courtesy of the Wall Street Journal.

This 2014 Corvette Stingray Can be Yours Virtually For Free

If you had any doubts that GM is attempting to make future buyers of its all-new Corvette Stingray feel younger in one by adapting the car's styling as well as its own marketing efforts to reach the PlayStation and Nissan GT-R generation of youths, look no further than to its connection with the Gran Turismo 5 (GT5) racing game.

After offering GT5 users the chance to drive a camouflaged prototype of the new Corvette C7, a challenge that more than 500,000 people accepted since last November, Chevrolet and Polyphony Digital Inc., the developers of the racing game franchise, are now making the production model available for download.

GM Wants New Corvette to be More than a Car for "Successful Plumbers", be a Poster on Kids' Walls

Even though it started as a young American’s dream car, somewhere along the way in its 60-year old history, the Corvette lost its edge and fell behind rivals.

GM execs agree with analysts such as Edmunds’ Jessica Caldwell who say that the ‘Vette is thought today as “an old man’s car”: the data show that last year, through October, around 46 percent of Corvette buyers were 55 years or older compared with just 22 percent of Audi R8 and 30 percent of Porsche 911 clients.

New Corvette C7 Poses on Magazine Front Covers

For their own reasons, automakers have their preferences in the media and like to give select magazines and websites (keep an eye on a certain auto blog's 12:01am, 12:02am Ford postings, for example) press photos and releases well before they distribute them to the rest of the media world.

General Motors is one of many automakers that adheres to these unwritten rules, which is why you're seeing a snapshot of the yet-to-be revealed 2014 Chevrolet Corvette C7 posing on the cover of Automobile Magazine's next issue.

Watch a Tug of War Between a VW Touareg V10 TDI and a Chevrolet Silverado Duramax V8

It seems that pickup truck owners throughout the country have a thing for competing in amateur pulling contests.

Only a couple of weeks ago, we witnessed the finesse, skill, and let's not forget, the…ahem…sportsmanship between two drivers in a Chevrolet Silverado and a diesel-powered Dodge Ram Cummins battling it out on a parking lot before they moved on to challenge each other in a traditional fist fight.

Chevrolet Sonic Can Wax Off Your Body Hair in a Jiffy

We've heard of cars that can put some hair on your chest (figuratively speaking) but vehicles that can literally wax off your body curls is something new to us…

Welcome to the world of French-Canadian artist Philippe Bond and his waxy and supposedly humorous stunt with Chevrolet Quebec to promote the new Sonic sub-compact.

SCOOP: 2014 Corvette C7 Captured on Camera on the Road

SCOOP-2014-Corvette-C7

We know the seventh generation of GM's flagship sports car, the Corvette, is just around the corner and that it will arrive sometime in the first half of 2013, but one YouTube user had the unique opportunity to see the car up close and on the road.

The good news is that he was able to film a short clip, the bad news being that he did it with a mobile phone without turning it sideways… Nonetheless, the video is worth 30 seconds of your time.

The prototype was under heavy camouflage but we are still able to see some details such as the four tailpipes, which unlike the current model, are bundled very closely together. The video also proves that the C7 will remain a front-engine, rear-wheel drive sports car

GM is keeping a tight lid on most things concerning the next Corvette, but we expect to see a new generation of V8 engines in both naturally aspirated and force-fed forms.

Chevrolet Execs Talk us Through the new 2014 Impala Sedan

It’s going to be a while before the 2014 Chevrolet Impala sedan hits showrooms in North America, close to a year to be exact, so General Motors will no doubt try to find various ways to keep consumer interest high in the coming months.

For now, the Detroit automaker has prepared a short video with Jon Hahn, Impala Marketing Manager, and Russ Clark, Marketing Director for Chevrolet Performance and Mid-Size Vehicles, highlighting certain aspects of the exterior design and the interior technology found on the 10th generation Impala, as well as a second clip with the Impala's exterior and interior designers.

Chevrolet Cruze Now Available in the UK with New 1.7-liter Diesel that Returns up to 72.4mpg

Chevrolet has announced the availability of a new and more frugal diesel engine for its UK market Cruze. The 1.7-liter VCDi unit will be offered on the five-door hatchback version of the Cruze starting in May and the newly revealed Station Wagon variant later this year.

The four-cylinder turbo diesel develops a maximum output of 128-horses (130PS) and a peak torque of 300Nm (221 lb-ft) accelerating the hatchback model from 0-60mph (96km/h) in 9.4 seconds and on to a top speed of 124mph (200km/h).

It returns a fuel economy of 51.3mpg UK in the city, 72.4mpg UK (3.9lt/100km or 60.3mpg US) on the highway and 62.7mpg UK (4.5lt/100km or 52.2mpg US) combined, with CO2 emissions of 117g/km.

Chevrolet UK Managing Director Mark Terry commented: "The new 1.7 VCDi gives Chevrolet a real opportunity to compete in the core area of the five-door hatchback market, where tax implications, fuel economy and CO2 emissions are critical."

The 1.7 VDCi will be offered in three trim levels on the Cruze Hatch including the entry-level LS, which is priced at £16,725 and comes with features such as air conditioning, ESC, remote central locking, follow-me-home headlamps, electrically-adjustable mirrors and electric front windows.

The mid-range LT is priced at £17,825, while the range topping LTZ at £18,685.

2013 Corvette Gets ‘Night Race Blue’ as Last Hurrah

2013-corvette-night-race-blue
The sixth-generation Chevrolet Corvette is heading into its final year of production, signifying a highly successful seven year production run.

As it prepares to be replaced, the American automaker is giving the C6 ‘Vette a new paint shade, Night Race Blue. The Night Race Blue is a classy shade of blue which will complement the existing Supersonic Blue Metallic and Carlisle Blue Metallic that is currently being offered.

Buyers of the 2013 Corvette will also get to choose between four Black Painted aluminum wheel choices, instead of the Competition Gray that was offered in years prior. Choices include a 5-spoke in 18- or 19-inch sizes, the Grand Sport in 18- or 19-inch, the Spider design will come in 18- or 19-inch, and the ZR1-styled wheel will be offered in 19- or 20-inch.

With the new paint and wheel combos certain to make the 2013 ‘Vette a looker, we’ll have to suffer with these grainy photos for now.
