Many have scoffed at the idea of using dashboard-mounted cameras, but that hasn't deterred hundreds of thousands if not millions of drivers from all over Russia from installing one in their vehicle.
If it wasn't for their love of cameras, the world would have missed out on a rare occasion when a meteorite shot across the sky and exploded over the Chelyabinsk region in central Russia on Friday morning.
The meteorite, which scientist estimate weighed 10 tons, flew over Russia's Ural Mountains at a speed of at least 54,000 km/h (33,000 mph!) before it shattered about 30-50 kilometers (18-32 miles) above ground, according to a statement from the Russian Academy of Science.
"I was driving to work, it was quite dark, but it suddenly became as bright as if it was day," Viktor Prokofiev, 36, a resident of Yekaterinburg, told Reuters. "I felt like I was blinded by headlights," he said.
Reports coming in from Russia say that no one was killed but more than 500 people were injured.
