Making their world debut at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit alongside the refreshed 2014 Grand Cherokee are two more Jeep models, the 2014 Compass and Patriot.
Both Jeeps gain a new six-speed automatic transmission that will be available either as standard on certain Latitude and Limited models or optional on the Sport.
Independently developed by PowerTech, the new six-speed automatic promises to offer quieter operation throughout the gear ranges and reduce cost of ownership and maintenance costs with its "fill-for-life" design.
The two models continue with two gasoline engine choices for the 2014 model year, including a base 2.0-liter unit delivering 158 horsepower (117kW) and peak torque of 141 lb.-ft. (191 Nm), and a 2.4-liter producing 172 horsepower (129kW) and 165 lb.-ft. (224Nm) of torque.
While the Patriot remains unchanged, the Compass receives some minor updates to its appearance with newly trimmed grilles for the Latitude and Limited models, black inner bezels for the headlamps on Sport and Latitude, smoked tail lamps, painted mirror caps, plated chrome insert on the tailgate trim applique and new available 18-inch alloys.
Inside, there's new optional Saddle Brown perforated leather seating with accent stitching for the Limited, new colors and materials for the seating of the Latitude models, while the armrests and center console lid are now wrapped in vinyl and the instrument cluster overlay graphics have been updated on all trim models.
